Our Reintroduction to Society (and beer)!

Our Reintroduction to Society (and beer)!

Dear Waterside Residents,

With the easing of lockdown restrictions since the 12th April, we can now enjoy a few drinks or a meal out in the city’s beer gardens, hooray! And with Spring well under way, bringing sunnier days, it could not have come at a better time.

Many pubs and restaurants have now reopened their outdoor areas, with more to follow over the next few weeks as lockdown rules loosen. But we’re sure it wasn’t just us who excitedly skipped into a beer garden over the weekend only to be told that it was fully booked. So we thought we would put together a short guide to local spots where you can enjoy food and drinks, and let you know how to go about securing one of those elusive tables…

  • Angelica – This rooftop bar above Trinity has one of the best terraces we know of and takes in some fantastic views across Leeds City Centre. Both food and drink served. Online booking required.
  • Banyan – Located bang in the centre of everything, Banyan is the perfect place to visit for a few drinks or a full menu of delicious food. Table service, heat lamps and covered seating. Walk-ins are welcome or you can book online.
  • Restaurant Bar & Grill – Located next door to Banyan (we’re thinking bar hop!), their popular outdoor area offers table service and covered seating. Online booking required.
  • Water Lane Boathouse – This riverside watering hole is only a short walk down the canal to Waterside and offers one of the best beer gardens in Leeds. Both food and drink are served under covered seating, heat lamps and table service. Walk-ins are welcome or you can book online.
  • Neon Cactus – Is there a better combination than Mexican food and cocktails? They have table service, heat lamps and covered seating. Call Lane anyone? Walk-ins only.
  • The Packhorse – One of the oldest pubs in Leeds is ready to serve drinks again as it reopens its beer garden. Walk-ins are welcome or you can book online.
  • Nation of Shopkeepers – Nation has reopened! This is not a drill! Both drinks and that feast-worthy menu of burgers can be enjoyed in their outside courtyard. They have table service, heat lamps and covered seating but be quick because you have to book online.
  • The Midnight Bell – Another short walk door-to-door from Waterside to this perfect sun trap! Drinks and a classic pub menu is available on a walk in or book online arrangement.
  • Belgrave Music Hall – Does anyone do a rooftop beer garden as good as Belgrave? The answer is, quite simply, NO. On a walk in only basis, this is a fantastic option for your group of six (due to large tables) to enjoy the best craft beers, cocktails and that amazing pop up kitchen. I asked earlier if there was anything better than Mexican food and cocktails… well there is, pizza and beer!
  • Walkabout – The Aussie-inspired bar is just off Millennium square and is a great place for a few pints, cocktails, food and live sport on the outdoor screens. They have table service, heat lamps and covered seating. You will need to book online.

We have plenty more suggestions, but the above will definitely see you through until June!

Happy eating and drinking!
