Autumn in Leeds

Autumn in Leeds

Autumn hands down is the best season in our opinion! The reintroduction of jackets and scarves, cosy nights in as it gets dark earlier, pumpkin spice and you can officially start thinking of Christmas without feeling any guilt!

We have put together a list of things to do to truly appreciate this fantastic time of year, with a few top tips from our Waterside team.

  • Try Your Hand Baking a Pumpkin Pie

Traditionally spiced with nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon, the Pumpkin Pie has become a staple in celebrating the American holiday of Thanksgiving – which falls on 25th November 2021. The smell alone will leave your apartment feeling indulgently autumnal so why not spend one chilly afternoon trying your hand at this recipe.

Michael’s Tip: You can buy canned pumpkin from most supermarkets or you can order from Amazon, which will save the trouble of preparing this yourself and in my opinion gives a more consistent result. Also, although this recipe does not call for ginger or nutmeg, you can use any spice you feel will add to the flavour, just try as you go! Believe it or not, it is a really simple recipe to make and even easier if you cheat and buy your pastry or pastry case pre-done.

  • Enjoy an Autumn Walk

Living in Leeds, we are lucky to have some of the most beautiful walks on our doorstep, especially in Autumn as the colours change… perfect for an Instagram story! Leeds List have put together a list of 7 Stunning Autumn Walks which will fill up a Sunday afternoon.

Khizer’s Tip: Time your walk well so that you can take advantage of the sun setting from 17:30. As well as the changing colours of the trees, the sky can be beautifully lit at this time of year and can provide the perfect backdrop for a photo or moment of serenity.

  • Enjoy a Laid Back Night Out

Just opened in Leeds and taking over the old Shooters Bar building on Park Row is Flight Club, a modern and social take on darts alongside food, drink and atmosphere set over their two floors. The opening was delayed due to the pandemic but luckily this gave them more time to give the building some TLC and it has opened with what is truly a stunning space. Flight Club is darts reimagined for a younger crowd and with an in-house vision system, there’s less keeping score and more having fun.

Flight Club, Sovereign House, 1-2 South Parade, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5QL

Tony’s Tip: Flight Club is a great bar with entertainment built-in but if you don’t fancy playing you can still go simply for a bite to eat and drinks; they’ll make you very welcome. Definitely recommended!

  • Pumpkin Picking

The ultimate Autumn activity, great for friends and families alike. Get your wellies on and go find the perfect temporary addition to your apartment. We suggest Swithens Pumpkin Festival 2021, which is only a short distance away and also has tractor rides and a haunted woods. Places are limited so booking is essential!

Paul’s Tip: Don’t always go for the biggest pumpkin! Pick the best one for you. Think how easy it will be to carve and what design you intend to use, and where you may place this in your apartment once carved (you don’t want to go for one too big if you only have a small space to place it!).

Happy tramping!
